Readers and subscribers will have noticed that Low Tech Combat now has a sidebar showing the most recent 'tweets' from the crazy new world of Twitter. So what is Twitter all about?
Im actually not too sure myself yet hehe. Low Tech Combat has been using Twitter for a few months now and I am only now beginning to 'get it.'
Basically, Twitter is a micro blogging service. This means that people post up 'tweets' that are no longer than 140 characters in length. This means tweets are short and to the point. Often, people tweet links to interesting stuff and tweet interesting or just plain random stuff as well.
Great For Sharing Stuff
I use it to tweet about stuff that isn't really worthy of a full post on the main site here, as well as when I just don't have time to post anything longer. I also use it to share links I find quite interesting.
The cool thing is, you can choose who you follow. I follow people interested in Martial Arts, Self Defence, the Combat Sports such as MMA, Reality Based Self Defence (RBSD) along with Strength and Conditioning. You can read about what tweeters are interested in by their bio.
Interaction - Social Media
Twitter is also a great way to interact with people. I have had many twitter conversations with various people. It is a very social medium with low risk and low commitment. It is not like facebook where there is pressure to decide, 'do I really want to be this persons friend or not?' On Twitter, you just follow someone. This will put there tweets onto your Twitter stream. That is all. Often, when you follow someone on Twitter, they will follow you as well to see what you are tweeting and so on.
You can have conversations that are in the public domain by 'replying' (this can be seen with the @ symbol before their name) or you can have private conversations by sending a 'direct message.'
Informal and Fun
Twitter is a very informal and fun way to stay in touch with a whole lot of people all interested in what you are interested in. It is also a very social medium. Hence the term I suppose of 'social media.'
Twitter as Search?
More and more, Twitter is being used as a kind of search engine. If you want to know something, it is really handy to just ask your Twitter followers! Often, someone out there will know the answer.
Tweet What?
What do I tweet about? Good question. I tweet about all kinds of interesting stuff relating to various aspects of Low Tech Combat that don't often make it onto the main site. Often, I will tweet interesting links I come across from all over the web. I will often 'retweet' cool links other have tweeted about. I will also tweet random thoughts I have. I will sometimes also tweet some interesting quotes if they are worthy and thought provoking.
Here some examples of tweets from Low Tech Combat:

I was wondering about you in the toilet. There weren't any tweets for a while. Glad you got out safely.
